On November 2, 2010, community activist and attorney Chris Blazejewski was elected State Representative in District 2, representing Providence and East Providence, with over 71% of the vote.

Chris grew up in North Smithfield and Cumberland and graduated from Cumberland High School.  A lifelong Rhode Islander and first in his family to attend college, Chris received his undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University.  While at Harvard, Chris clerked for the Rhode Island state courts and taught undergraduate courses in economics, ethics, and law.

After graduating from law school, Chris started a nonprofit organization providing free college counseling to diverse Rhode Island public high school students.  He also began practicing law at the firm of Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP.

In 2007, Chris established himself as a presence in the Rhode Island progressive community as one of the founders of the popular Drinking Liberally.  The group has emerged as a force in Democratic Party politics, with candidates from around the state appearing before the monthly gatherings of young political activists.

Now an attorney in private practice at Sherin and Lodgen LLP, Chris represents several Rhode Island nonprofits and small businesses, advising them on solving complex problems, resolving disputes, and facing the challenges of these tough economic times.

Chris has also demonstrated a profound commitment to public service.  Chris is co-founder of Young Lawyers for Obama and serves on the board of several alumni associations.  Chris is also a member of the Fox Point Neighborhood Association, Friends of India Point Park, and Rhode Island Bar Association.

With the serious challenges facing Rhode Island, Chris understands the critical need to cultivate and build upon Rhode Island’s unrealized potential.  Together, his life story, his public service, and his professional experience have prepared Chris to bring leadership to the State House that will fight to preserve our natural resources, strengthen our public education, and grow a stronger economy for working families.

Chris is married to Ami Gada, also a lifelong Rhode Islander.  Ami is a Brown University graduate and Johnston High School history teacher currently studying urban education policy at Harvard.  They live on Williams Street in Providence, where they purchased their home in 2005.
